In the Garden City of India, Bengaluru’s Vasanthapura locale, is situated the massive 5-storeyed ISO certified 5S and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practise) standardised centralised kitchen of The Akshaya Patra Foundation. The kitchen is also referred to as the V.K. Hill kitchen since it is located atop the Vaikuntha Hill. The kitchen stands in a radius of 1,10,686.42 square feet and was inaugurated in 2007.

Details of the Kitchen

Eco- friendly measures adopted in the kitchen

The eco-friendly measures adopted are:

  • A solar plant that generates 70 units of power a day;
  • Biogas plant;
  • Recycled water from Sewage Treatment Plant is reused for gardening;
  • Gravitation flow of raw materials and cooked food; and
  • Use of eco-friendly items.
  • CII National Award for food safety 2014

  • Serving meals to BBMP colleges, Corporation Nursery Schools, and Private-aided schools;
  • Distribution of 7500 hygiene kits to Government school students; 
  • Planting of saplings on World Environment Day; and
  • Conducting Donors Camp on Blood Donation Day.
